Description
Imogen (Cymbeline) by William Shakespeare
Hang there like fruit, my soul,
Till the tree die – V.v
The American Shakespeare Center (ASC) brings its 2019/20 Hand of Time Tour to Austin with a performance of Imogen on Tuesday, March 5 at 7:00 PM on the stage of Hogg Auditorium. This visit is made possible by Shakespeare at Winedale and the English Department.
Imogen, also known as Cymbeline, is sometimes described as “Shakespeare’s fairy tale.” King Cymbeline promises to marry his daughter Imogen to his stepson Cloten, while Imogen has secretly eloped with her best friend, Posthumus. Disguises, mistaken identity, a missing head, and nefarious plots complicate this tale of love and purity. With Imogen, ASC introduces audiences to a riveting tale of romance and adventure in one of Shakespeare’s least-produced but most enticing plays.
Music plays an expanded role in this production of Imogen, where contemporary culture clashes with a world of kings, queens, and princesses. ASC’s actor-musicians play live music before the show and during intermission, covering modern classics that riff on the themes of Shakespeare’s play.
Performance: Tuesday, March 5, 7:00 pm for live pre-show music; performance at 7:30 PM
Venue: Texas Quadrangle Room on the third floor of the Texas Union
